Play your part in helping to drive the recognition and professionalisation of performance coaching in the UK. Become a member of the UK Performance Coaches' Association - the prestigious association for performance-focused sports coaches in the UK.

There is now a membership organisation whose sole focus is to support, represent and advocate for coaches who work with high performance athletes

Driven by UK Sport's Coaching Fellows, the UK Performance Coaches' Association (UKPCA) has been established to give a member-led voice to coaches who work in the demanding environment of high performance sport.

Coaching is ambiguous, complex, and messy in nature.  While support has traditionally focused upon athletes’, recently there has been acknowledgment that greater support should be afforded to coaches who are performers in their own right.  The UKPCA has been set up to do just that, it provides a coach’s voice, services and networks which will ensure coaches are better equipped to operate in the world of high performance sport.

Supported by UK Sport, hosted and facilitated by UK Coaching, the UKPCA will aim to:

  • help to shape and influence performance coaching in the UK by listening to you and your fellow members
  • provide a representative voice for performance coaches and coaching
  • support coaches by providing bespoke specialist provision (such as legal, employment, counselling and financial advice), and representation if required
  • put coach's needs first by promoting and supporting coach welfare
  • work to develop, promote and maintain technical and professional coaching standards
  • learn, grow and develop your skills through online high performance-focused continuing professional development
  • give you the opportunity to share best practice and network at exclusive events
  • host a private online platform where you can connect with other members, pool ideas and solve problems together
  • raise the profile of performance coaching, to better recognise and celebrate coaching achievements
  • help inspire, support and guide the development of the next generation of performance coaches.

Leadership Group

The Association will be led and run by a Leadership Group of 9 consisting of six full members (membership options below) who have been formally elected by their peers, one of whom will serve as Chairperson, two members of UK Coaching and one member of UK Sport.

The first elections will be held in early 2019, when Full members will be invited to put themselves forward for one of three places, to work alongside three of the founder Fellows for the first two years.

The Leadership Group will put robust measures in place to uphold the integrity of the association.

Membership Options

Membership runs for 12 months and is renewed annually.

Each level of membership has bespoke eligibility criteria that applicants must meet.

The membership criteria aims to recognise, advocate and support current coaches working in high performance coach roles in the UK. The UKPCA also recognises the experience and wisdom of coaches who have worked in these roles and are either taking a break or have retired and what they can offer to the coaching community. These coaches will be eligible to be full members. We also recognise the need to support coaches who are working in the performance arena but are still to fulfil their ambition in performance coaching. For these coaches there is an associate membership available.

I am very passionate about the future of coaching and how this Association can move coaching in the right direction. It is the right time to bring coaches together, share stories, exchange cross learning and protect coaches for the future.
